Low-frequency drone is the noise you stop noticing and never stop feeling. CarANC measures it 44,100 times a second and cancels it continuously — so a two-hour drive feels like a one-hour drive.

When the drone is gone, you stop turning the volume up to fight it. Bass, podcasts, and calls come through at lower, safer volumes — music and anti-noise share the same speakers.

  1. It listens before you hear.

    Three reference microphones pick up the drone as it builds — engine vibration, tyre rumble, the low hum that fills the cabin at speed.

  2. It checks its own work.

    A fourth microphone — the error mic — sits where the sound actually reaches you and reports how much drone is left, so the system corrects itself every few milliseconds.

  3. It answers noise with anti-noise — through your own speakers.

    The processor generates a mirror-image sound wave and plays it under your music. Where the two waves meet, they cancel — a quiet zone around the front of the cabin.

  4. It knows when to stay quiet.

    A built-in motion sensor freezes the filter when the car is stationary and wakes it when you move off — no hiss at traffic lights.

That's the whole trick. No sealed cabin, no headphones, no subscription. Physics, done honestly: steady low-frequency drone cancels beautifully; sudden or high-pitched sounds don't — and shouldn't.

From the founder

I'm an independent maker in Hong Kong. By day I run a specialty coffee shop; by night I ship apps and build hardware. CarANC exists because of my commute: elevated highways, concrete canyons, and an older car whose engine drone at 80 km/h could sand your patience down to nothing. Noise-cancelling headphones are illegal and dangerous behind the wheel, and factory road-noise cancellation only ships in cars costing more than my espresso machine, my car, and my flat deposit combined. So I built the middle path: a small box that does the one thing that matters — kill the drone — using your car's own speakers. My shoulders unclench somewhere around the third minute. I want you to have that too.

Honest FAQ

Why doesn't it cancel voices, horns, or sirens?

By design — and we consider this the most important feature. CarANC only targets steady low-frequency drone (roughly 40–200 Hz). Speech, horns, and sirens are higher-pitched and change too fast for anti-noise to physically catch — and we would not cancel them even if we could. You must be able to hear your passengers, emergency vehicles, and your own car.

Will it actually make my car silent?

No, and anyone who promises that is selling physics that doesn't exist. Expect a clearly audible reduction in the low drone band — the difference between "droning" and "calm" — strongest in the front of the cabin. Wind hiss and high-frequency tyre noise remain.

Will it work in my car?

If your stereo has an AUX input, yes — that's the one requirement, because anti-noise must reach the speakers with near-zero delay. Older and simpler cars, which tend to drone the most, benefit the most. Bluetooth output is supported for music, but ANC automatically switches off in that mode — Bluetooth's delay makes real-time cancellation physically impossible, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Why AA batteries instead of a built-in lithium pack?

Safety: a parked car in a Hong Kong summer passes 70 °C inside, exactly where lithium becomes a liability. Shipping: no lithium means no dangerous-goods paperwork, so we ship worldwide simply. Longevity: when the cells age, you replace them for a few dollars instead of binning the product. The standard Base tier skips batteries entirely and runs from your 12V socket.

Does it listen to my conversations?

The microphones feed a signal processor that computes anti-noise 44,100 times a second and immediately discards the audio. Nothing is recorded, nothing is stored, and the unit has no connection to the internet — the phone app talks to it over Bluetooth LE for settings and EQ only. Your cabin audio never leaves the box. When does it ship?

The Kickstarter campaign launches mid-November 2026, with fulfillment planned for Q1 2027. The V1 prototype is complete in September 2026 and the campaign will show it running in real cars — no renders-only promises.
